Cash Drawer Not Opening – How to Fix It

Troubleshooting steps when your cash drawer does not open.

If your cash drawer is not opening, this is usually due to a connection issue. The drawer must be physically connected to the receipt printer, not directly to the POS or computer.

Steps to check and fix the issue:

  1. Check the cable: Make sure the cash drawer is connected to the receipt printer using the correct cable (RJ11 or RJ12 plug).

  2. Check the printer: Is the receipt printer powered on and working? Try printing a receipt.

  3. Check printer settings: In your POS system, verify that the printer is correctly set as the default and that “open cash drawer” is enabled.

  4. Restart the system: Turn the POS and printer off and on again to reset the connection.

  5. Try a test print: This may trigger the drawer to open.

💡 Important: The cash drawer only opens after a print command is sent (e.g., after printing a receipt). If no receipt is printed, the drawer will not open.

If the issue continues, please contact Cashdesk support.
